Nestled in the village of Avirey-Lingey in the Côte des Bar, Champagne Serge Mathieu is one of the region's most respected grower-producers, with a family history in viticulture stretching back more than 250 years. Today, the estate comprises 11 hectares of organically certified vineyards, planted predominantly to Pinot Noir (around 80%) with the balance Chardonnay. Every cuvée is produced exclusively from the family's own fruit, allowing each wine to express the distinctive Kimmeridgian limestone soils and warmer southern climate that make the Côte des Bar one of Champagne's most exciting terroirs. Under the stewardship of Isabelle Mathieu and Michel Jacob, the estate has embraced sustainable and organic viticulture alongside a deliberately low-intervention approach in the cellar, producing Champagnes renowned for their precision, freshness and understated elegance. Extended ageing on lees and restrained dosage preserve purity of fruit and terroir, resulting in artisanal Champagnes that offer exceptional character, balance and value.
Tasting Note: Made exclusively from estate-grown Pinot Noir, with a proportion of still red wine from the domaine blended into the cuvée, Serge Mathieu Brut Rosé combines vibrant fruit with the hallmark precision of the Côte des Bar. The bouquet opens with fresh strawberries, pomegranate and wild raspberry, complemented by subtle floral notes and delicate brioche from extended lees ageing. On the palate, fine persistent mousse carries layers of juicy red berries, blood orange and a gentle chalky minerality, balanced by lively acidity and impressive depth through the finish. Elegant, gastronomic and beautifully poised, it is equally at home as an aperitif or alongside salmon, tuna, duck or lightly spiced dishes.
